About Summer Day Camp Staff
At Camp Fire, we are proud of our commitment to recruiting, retaining, and training a dedicated, mature staff team. Our staff is committed to providing your child with the best possible summer camp experience.
Our specific ratios are listed below:
Ages 4-5: 6 to 1 ratio (2 counselors to a group of 12 campers)
Ages 6-8: 8 to 1 ratio (2 counselors to a group of 16 campers)
Ages 9-14: 10 to 1 ratio (2 counselors to a group of 20 campers)
Specialized activities in camp have different requirements often involving a larger number of staff to campers for more in depth supervision.
Beyond camp, most of our staff work with kids year round within the Long Beach Unified School District After School Programs. They work with kids from a variety of socioeconomic and special needs backgrounds. All of our staff are required to be at least 18 years of age.
Health and Safety
Your child's health and safety is our primary concern. All staff are certified in CPR and First Aid. In the event of an emergency you will be notified immediately. If you cannot be reached we will contact the people listed as emergency contacts on the campers registration form while continuing to reach you. If your phone numbers change at any time during the summer, please notify us immediately.
Each staff member is screened thru an application process, a personal interview with the Camp Director, and a thorough background check conducted thru the Department of Justice and National Sex Offender Registry. Staff is hired based on experience, character, personality, practical skills, and leadership qualities.
