Backyard Bunch offers 3 different program options


Traditional Camp (Grades K-7)

Offers a variety of activities that take place on-site at our 5 acre Long Beach facility. Each day is filled with exciting hands-on adventures. Campers will be immersed in activities related to the weekly theme as well as more traditional camp activities.

Activities include:

 

Adventure Camp (Grades K-7)

Campers choosing this option will participate in many of the Traditional Camp activities listed above, but in addition will take 2 weekly field trips. Tuesday field trips will be a swimming excursion to either the beach or local pool. Thursday trips take place at many exciting local attractions. Beach Cruisers (Grades 5-10)

Beach Cruisers Day Camp program is a fun and exciting way for older campers to get out of the house and get in to nature! Campers will spend their summer being active and creative while exploring local attractions and experiencing the outdoors. This program takes campers on three weekly field trips, consisting of unique experiences around the Long Beach, Orange County, and Los Angeles areas. Refer to themes and trips chart for field trip destinations.

When Beach Cruisers are not out participating in exciting excursions they will join Backyard Bunch for many of the Traditional Camp activities listed above. This provides an opportunity for older campers to gain leadership experiences by mentoring younger campers and assisting camp counselors. . Example Adventure Camp calendar.

Dates: June 16- August 22, 2014
Hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Monday - Friday.
Extended hours available 7:00 am - 6:00 pm.

 

We also offer a short week option that allows campers to attend a partial week (3 days or less).
You choose which three days your child will attend.

 

Program activities change daily. Below is an example of a typical daily schedule and a typical weekly schedule. Each week parents are provided with a weekly calendar that outlines the daily activities and trips. Please keep in mind that the schedule does change from time to time due to a variety of reasons. For more detailed information about the schedule please refer to the Parent Handbook.

 

 

Example Daily Schedule

7:00-8:30

Extended hours (optional)
Campers participate in board/card games and crafts with staff and others campers.

Group Time/Camper Arrival
Counselors gather campers, take role, provide sunscreen, water/bathroom break, and run an icebreaker activity/game.

9:00 -10:00

Activity Rotation
Games, crafts, outdoor education, and specialized activities often related to weekly theme. May also consist of a campers vs. staff competition or a two group paired activity.

Trip departure/ Activity Rotation
Campers enrolled in Adventure Camp or Beach Cruisers departing on trips are placed into travel groups and load the bus/van.
Activity rotations consist of a combination of indoor and outdoor games, crafts, culinary instruction and specialized activities often related to weekly theme

11:30

Lunch
Campers bring a sack lunch Tuesday – Friday. On Mondays the entire camp participates in a cookout lunch over an open campfire. All food and drinks are provided for Monday’s cookout lunch.

12:00-3:00

Choose your own
Camper can choose between a variety of activities offered. Choices often include indoor/outdoor games, crafts, archery, climbing wall, food challenge , etc.

Example of typical choose your own: Scooter Basketball, Iron Chef Challenge, Capture the Flag, Archery, Water color pictures.

3:00-3:30

Snack
An afternoon snack and water is provided daily.
Snacks are provided as a quick energy boost for campers they are not designed to replace a meal.
Campers with food allergies are encouraged to bring their own snacks.

3:30-6:00 pm

Camper Departure/Extended hours 
Campers enrolled in extended hours can choose to participate in one of the 2-4 different provided. All activities are led by staff and often include: an indoor/outdoor game or sport, a craft.
Campers not wanting to participate in any of the offered activities can choose to have free time to play cards or board games in a designated staff supervised area.
